Trees green and lighted - 2/8/2011

Click for Day 6 pics!
Another yummy breakfast of raisin toast, grapes and coffee along with a blue sky started our sixth day.  Muir Woods was first up, though the drive there almost counted as an event in itself with it's twists and turns and beautiful views of rolling hills, the bay and the city.  Let's see, what happened in the woods?  The hike up east wood trail was not flat and we got quite a workout, actually went from three layers and scarves to only the under layer.  At the top was also where the two cups of coffee went right through me and well, I peed behind a tree, quite gross.  Apparently the bathrooms at the campgrounds are locked off season.  What else?  Of course, there were the many pictures to be had of the magnificent trees.  Their size and height were quite impressive.  There were also the goofy pictures of us falling off cliffs, pretending to be trees and hanging from branches.

By this point we were feeling the effects of the beginning of our travels and were ready for a break.  We stopped for lunch at a New York bagel shop and stole the internet from starbucks next door to get our pictures up.  Unfortunately we can't yet get those posted using the iPad and so we apologize for the delay.  Next up was a large ice cream with espresso chip, chocolate fudge brownie and rocky road.  It was heavenly, especially eating it on a bench drenched in sun.

For the next part of our relaxation we headed back to Kat's grandpa's.  I took a shower while Kat showed off some of our pictures.  Her grandpa was zooming around the iPad, quite impressive.  The final piece, ultimate relaxation, we ordered pizza.  After browsing a number of ads, chuckling over the Holy Cow! (lots of different cheeses), Drag it Thru the Garden (veggie) and Ragin' Rooster (BBQ), we finally settled on the Paia pie (Canadian Bacon, Hawaiian pineapple, Mandarin oranges, fresh tomato sauce, mozzarella and cheddar).  The oranges were a nice california touch and I'll definitely have to include them in my next pizza making adventure.

About this time, a friend of mine who lives in Santa Clara got off work and we decided to meet up in Palo Alto.  After a brief tour of Stanford we settled in for some coffee/tea and a whole lotta catching up.  It had been almost 8 years since we had seen each other!  It was a super crowded place (cafe del doge, expensive yet amazing drinks) and so we got stuck at two tables flanking the outside of the door.  Somehow, this did not hinder the talking.  Eventually though, the drinks did disappear and we began to get chilled.  After a brief walk around the adorable Palo Alto downtown (they still had white lights on the trees!), and of course a few more silly pictures, we ended the evening.  Day Six to an end.
