San Francisco Pt1 - 2/7/2011

Today I woke up to the delicious aroma of coffee.  After some yummy cinnamon raisin toast and grapes we were ready to go.  We parked in chinatown and exited the garage to it's colorful streets.  Our poor legs paid the price as indecision took us up and down a whole lot of hills.  Wow, were the views pretty though.  At one point we stopped at a Chinese bakery and Kat introduced me to a few things.  Not my favorite, though it did make for a good picture :).  To fill my belly we headed to an Italian/French bakery where I thoroughly enjoyed a lemon almond scone.  Curious, Kat does not like scones.  Apparently American food is where we have the most in common.

We finally did make it to the Coit tower and it was pretty impressive.  My favorite part, though, was walking down.  There are apparently over 800 steps going down Telegraph Hill and it was quite fun, though our legs got a little shaky.  Also, we found our next place; a two story townhouse overlooking the bay was available and the sign said it had extraordinary views... Ya think?

Up next was a bit of planning in a park to give our legs a rest and then we headed over to the cable cars.  It was awesome!  It was also the first thing we had to pay for besides food, parking and gas, not bad, not bad.  There were a few exciting moments as we went up and down incredibly steep hills and other cars/trolleys passed within a foot or two of us.  One high five did occur, but shhhh.  We rode from end to end despite the fact that our car was near the halfway point.  Oh well, more choices on the trek back for lunch.  After a bit of sushi we got in the car and headed to the Golden Gate Park.

The route to the park was rather convoluted and unintuitive.  It had me wishing I had figured out how to the keep the iPad screen from turning as it was turned.  Lefts/rights are not the easiest things to figure out from upside down and sideways.  Oh well, we got a pretty good tour of the city before finally arriving at the golden gate park :).
