Greensboro - 3/7/11

Greensboro pics
Since we had stayed up late chatting on Sunday, we didn’t much feel like getting out of bed Monday morning. At around 10:20 I realized that Tricia had probably gotten up and that I was probably being rude staying in bed, so I dragged myself up and out. It turns out Tricia was still feeling ill and hadn’t gotten up either. I made myself some cereal and looked through old pictures with Glen for a while. At 11:30 I decided to wake Tricia up. I went into her room and she open her eyes and gave me a bleary look. “Are you dressed already?” she asked me. “Well…..it is 11:30.” She had a moment of disbelief. Then she got up. J

We left the house intending to go to the free Greensboro Historical Museum. We drove downtown and pulled in front of the museum…..only to realize that it was Monday and of course the museum was closed. So we decided that we would come back to the museum on Tuesday and drove to the Greensboro Arboretum to walk around in the fresh air. Tricia was getting chills, so we returned to the car so she could put on a hat, scarf, and extra jacket. We walked around the park in the cold and discussed politics - our topic of choice these days.

After our refreshing walk we got back in the car and went to Food Lion to see the produce. I should have remembered that the Food Lion in Greensboro is awful, but I thought maybe after 6 years or so it had improved. But not really. So we decided to check out the ice cream. Apparently, they had had a malfunction in the ice cream case and thrown almost all the ice cream away. The rest they were selling for buy one get one free. So we picked up some Breyers Mint Chocolate Chip and Rocky Road and rushed them back to the house and into the freezer.

Since it was still light out, we thought it would be a good time to rearrange our car (since it was still in disarray from fitting 4 people into it in Atlanta). We even borrowed a little vacuum from Glen! (But we couldn’t get it to work. So we figure we’ll just clean out the car at the end of our trip. Even though driving barefoot is getting a little gross….) We pulled out all our dirty clothes and dumped them in the street, and the rearranged our suitcases, blankets, pillows, bags of beads, compost bins, books, food, trash can, shoes, computers, toiletries, coats, backpacks, boxes, and chargers, and put the can opener in a more accessible spot. Right about this time, Kathleen pulled into the driveway, so I followed her into the house to ask if we could use the washer and dryer. We all got to talking, leaving Tricia with 3 bags of laundry, detergent, dryer sheets, vacuum, our day bag, and our bags of trash. Finally, from inside the house Glen say, “I think Tricia’s glaring at you….” Oh yeah. I should probably go back out and help.

We put the laundry in and then all sat around and caught up for a few hours. Glen and Kathleen had sort of adopted me while I was in college living 600 miles away from my parents. We hadn’t seen each other in three years, and had a lot to talk about. That night we had chicken salad sandwiches with tomatoes on butter croissants and chips for dinner. We sampled Ritz Chips (which I totally approve of - two thumbs up!), salt and vinegar chips (mixed reviews - Glen can’t stand them, but Kathleen likes them), and baked Ridges with sea salt (fairly tasty). And then I tried to coax Tricia into finishing the Houston blog before she crashed, but was unsuccessful. Her cold was catching up to her, and she needed to take a shower and go to bed.
