It was drizzling as we left, but we still managed a few shots of the city before we left. The drizzle soon turned into a downpour and it was not the nicest re-introduction to long driving days. We managed to pass into both Mississippi and Alabama without taking pictures of their welcome signs. Oops. Then we began to get hungry and Kat had a hankering for corn nuggets, reminiscent of her north Carolina days. Finding some was not an easy task and we wandered for quite a bit without finding anything reasonable.
However, a shining moment for this car ride finally came after we had been driving around for eons trying to find a place for dinner. Cheeburger Cheeburger. This place let's you take a plain hamburger and, for one price, add as many of the 23 toppings on the list as you'd like. We had everything from artichoke hearts to caramelized onions to pineapple to guacamole. It was tall, loaded and amazing.
Our love for this restaurant only intensified as we came to their milkshakes. Again, for one price you can mix as many ice cream flavors as you'd like. I went for a Bailey's, mocha themed drink while Kat's had everything from reeses to raspberry. We we ready for a food coma after that, but Atlanta was calling.
We were staying with a friend of mine from high school and it was amazing to catch up. Six years is way too long! Her husband was as nice as I remembered and her baby girl the cutest thing! The three grownup (relatively) girls went for a drive through little five (oh, I made a rhyme. Yes, I'm tired tonight). It's the hippy part of town and was quite fun to see despite the lack of crowds due to the rain. The much touted Vortex was an awesome, if somewhat creepy building, with it's skull entrance. The rain kept us in our car and wee soon headed back. The little one was finally asleep when we got back and the rest of us followed soon after. Goodnight to day 31.
P.S. - Kat here. Taking over the typing. Adding my two cents:
Atlanta drivers are crazy. Apparently, they've never seen rain before. We were driving on the highway, and ended up behind one guy going 50 and one guy going 40. Both these cars were riding their brakes to maintain their slow (and dangerous) speed. And it was barely a drizzle by that point.
Also, Cheeburger Cheeburger is my new favorite restaurant. My milkshake had Butterfingers, Reese's, Snickers, Heath Bars, Cookie Dough, Raspberries, Berry Berry (I don't know what that is, but it sounded good), Double Chocolate, Swiss Chocolate, Irish Creme, and Amaretto. This may be the only restaurant we've found that I would recommend. And it's a chain no less!! Oh, and Chueys. Which I think may also be a chain.
